Network Engineer

Job Purpose & Scope

Participates in the activity of the Network Section related to Company’s Computer Network Environment in supervising contractors for or carrying out trouble-shooting, testing, tuning, configuring, providing technical support, managing the Network operation, Network design and project equipment consists of routers, ATM and ethernet switches, ATM and ethernet hubs, structured cabling (wires and fiber obtic), remote and local interconnection, gateways systems consist of protocols, monitoring and trouble-shooting tools.

Latitude of Operation
• Specifies Network Hardware and software standards. Specifies and controls Network Security and IP addressing.
• Installs, customises, test, maintains and tunes various equipment and related softwares constituting the Network.
• Provides technical assistance in identifying, tracking and curing systems malfunctions and recommends preventive action.
• Detects errors and undertakes recovery procedures to achieve maximum throughput and serviceability.
• Liaison with manufacturers, applications managers and help desk to circumvent problems and to establish system’s parameters for loading and response time requested.
• Assists in the provision of technical support to analyse statistics and advise in applications modification as necessary.
• Establishes statistics and usage trends for inclusion in long-range hardware and software planning.
• Provides training and development services to Operations, User’s assistants, systems and programming staff on Network equipment. Includes preparing manuals, using training aids and disseminating information of “updates”.
• Assists in planning and evaluating new requirement of Network Equipment.
Work Interfaces • Documents all Network Equipment and parameters changes as per Company standard.
• Knows the company Health, safety and Environment Policy, Procedures, Regulations and Objectives as they relate to his/her area of responsibility. Ensures that work under his/her control is performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Conducts effective accident investigation and follow up. Implements specific Safety Management Systems Programme activities assigned to him-her.
• Maintains the integrity and security of all Network Premises, all equipment and cabling to a very high standard.
• Provides a solid maintenance support to the Operations Section, the Application Section and Users Services Section.
• Carries out other related duties as directed by the Team Leader (Network Section).

Qualifications
• B.Sc. in computer Science or equivalent
• 2 – 3 years experience in System Engineering or equivalent position in a Network environment
• Formal training on some of equipment and systems used in Company
• Good Knowledge of English
